In a cozy bedroom, a fluffy yellow dog was lying happily on a big bed covered with a soft white blanket. He looked completely relaxed, as if he had already claimed the bed as his personal kingdom.
Down on the floor, a tiny gray-and-white kitten looked up at the bed with wide, determined eyes.
That bed looked soft.
That bed looked warm.
And most importantly… that bed looked very exclusive.
The kitten crouched down, wiggled his little bottom, and launched himself upward with all his strength.
For one glorious second, it looked like he might make it.
His tiny paws grabbed the edge of the bed…
…and then he slipped.
Plop.
He landed gently on the soft rug below and stared up at the dog with a shocked expression, as if to say, “Um… nobody saw that, right?”
The yellow dog lifted his head and looked down at his tiny friend. The kitten quickly pretended that falling off the bed had been part of the plan all along.
Not ready to give up, the kitten backed up for round two.
This time, he jumped again, paws reaching desperately for the edge of the bed.
But before he could slip, the yellow dog rushed to the side of the bed. Stretching out his front paws, he grabbed the kitten’s tiny front legs and gently pulled him up.
Success.
The kitten finally made it onto the bed.
Instead of celebrating like a champion athlete, the little kitten immediately rubbed his head against the dog’s cheek, purring as if to say, “Of course I could’ve done it myself… but thanks anyway.”
The dog gave him a proud look, and the two friends curled up together on the soft blanket, happy and warm.
From that day on, the kitten learned two important lessons:
First, climbing a giant bed is harder than it looks.
Second, having a best friend with longer legs is very useful.
