A fluffy gray puppy sat proudly in the back seat of a clean car, safely buckled into his seat belt.
In his tiny front paws, he held a cream-colored teddy bear very tightly.
He looked out the window with big, excited eyes as cars, trees, and people passed by.
The puppy behaved like the perfect passenger.
No barking.
No jumping around.
No asking, “Are we there yet?”
He simply hugged his teddy bear and enjoyed the view like a very serious little tourist.
Then a white-and-orange kitten climbed onto the back seat.
The puppy slowly turned his head.
He looked at the kitten.
Then he looked at his teddy bear.
Then he looked at the kitten again.
It was the most difficult decision of his entire life.
After three dramatic seconds, the puppy gently placed the teddy bear beside him.
“Sorry,” his face seemed to say. “I found something softer.”
The kitten walked closer, and the puppy immediately wrapped both front paws around it. He rubbed his fluffy head against the kitten’s cheek while the kitten happily snuggled into his chest.
Soon, the two of them were sitting together, safely buckled in and cuddling like they had been best friends for years.
The teddy bear remained alone in the corner of the seat.
It had started the journey as the puppy’s favorite travel companion…
and had been replaced before the car even reached the next traffic light.
The puppy learned that road trips are always better with a friend.
The teddy bear learned never to trust a kitten.
