No one knew why the little gray kitten loved that blue plastic basin so much.
To everyone else, it was just an ordinary container sitting beneath the warm afternoon sun.
But to the kitten, it was a private bed.
A tiny vacation resort.
And most importantly…
A place where no one was supposed to disturb him.
He curled himself into a fluffy gray ball, closed his eyes, and looked completely satisfied with life.
Then, from across the yard, a little yellow duckling appeared.
It waddled toward the basin with quick, clumsy steps, staring at the sleeping kitten with wide, curious eyes.
The duckling tilted its head.
The kitten slowly opened one eye.
For a few seconds, neither of them moved.
The kitten seemed to be asking,
“Can I help you?”
But the duckling had already made its decision.
It flapped its tiny wings, took one brave little jump…
And landed right inside the basin.
The kitten immediately sat up in shock.
His peaceful private room had suddenly become a shared apartment.
The duckling, however, looked completely comfortable.
It shuffled closer, tucked its tiny feet beneath its body, and settled beside the kitten as though it had booked the room days ago.
The kitten stared at his unexpected guest.
He could have climbed out.
He could have pushed the duckling away.
Instead, he slowly lifted one paw and gently pulled the little yellow visitor closer.
Then he wrapped both front legs around the duckling, licked the top of its fluffy head, and rested his cheek against its soft feathers.
The duckling happily snuggled against his chest.
Within moments, both of them were closing their eyes beneath the warm sunlight.
The basin was still small.
But somehow, there was enough room for two.
Perhaps friendship does not always begin with an introduction.
Sometimes, it begins when a tiny stranger jumps into your bed…
Refuses to leave…
And starts acting like they pay half the rent.
The kitten may have lost his private room that afternoon.
But he gained something much better.
A warm little brother…
And the cutest uninvited roommate in the world.
