No one knew where the shiny black dog had found the red rose.
All anyone saw was him standing in the middle of the room with the flower carefully held in his mouth, his tail wagging softly and his eyes shining with hope.
He looked unbelievably serious.
Almost too serious.
Like a tiny gentleman on the most important date of his life.
Step by step, he walked forward with great care, making sure not to drop the rose.
His expression seemed to say,
“I may not have money.”
“I may not have fancy gifts.”
“But I do have this flower…”
“And a very sincere heart.”
When he finally reached the person he loved, he stopped and lifted his head proudly.
The rose was still perfectly in place.
The person smiled and gently held out a hand.
The dog stared at it for a moment.
Perhaps he thought he was supposed to hand over the rose first.
Or perhaps he was wondering whether this was the official beginning of a business agreement.
After a few seconds of deep consideration, he slowly placed both front paws into the person’s hand.
Not just one paw.
Both.
Because apparently, one paw was not enough to express this level of devotion.
The person laughed softly and bent down to stroke the dog’s head.
That was all it took.
The dog’s tail immediately wagged faster.
His eyes softened.
His whole face lit up with happiness.
He looked so proud of himself that the rose almost slipped from his mouth.
Clearly, the mission had been a success.
He had arrived with a flower…
And in return, he had received head pats, affection, and everyone’s full attention.
Honestly, it was an excellent deal.
The dog could not write love letters.
He could not plan a romantic speech.
And he definitely could not wrap presents.
But he did know how to stand in front of someone he loved, offer a tiny rose, and give all the love in his little heart.
Of course, this may not have been a completely free gift.
Because after the head pats were over, the dog remained right where he was, still looking up with those sparkling eyes.
As if he wanted to gently remind everyone,
“The rose was free.”
“But the service fee must be paid in cuddles…”
“And maybe two treats.”
